Two daily tips to support overall well-being and stay positive.

In an era where things happen so fast and getting lost or carried away with the day’s demands is easy, we must prioritize our well-being. The saying goes, ‘You cannot pour from an empty cup.’ Our peace of mind must be at our best physically, mentally, and emotionally. I will share two tips that have worked for me over the years, and I hope you’re happy with this.

Passwords

I have realised how powerful a password can be. Logging into my computers every day, I need a password. We are always encouraged to create a password centering around a memorable event. A few years back, I used old addresses where I grew up. While I enjoyed my childhood, those places would be outside my top 10 picks of where I would like to live now. One funny thing I noticed during that period was logging into work daily with those passwords brought back memories of living there. Sometimes, I would have dreams that I was back there when I slept at night! Nahhh….if I didn’t want to go back there, even in my thoughts, I had to change something.

The simple but powerful step I took was to change my password. Now, my passwords are places I want to visit or upcoming holidays. I love to travel and explore, and trust me, logging in daily with passwords, including words like Paris, Maldives, Kenya, etc., brings a smile to my face and gives me an energy boost to stay productive and get the funds to actualise those thoughts. Passwords can be centered around various topics like:

Affirmations: Create passwords that reflect positive affirmations, like “IamGr8ful!” or “PositivityWins!” These daily reminders can boost your mood.

Goal-Oriented: Use passwords related to your goals. For instance, if you’re saving for a vacation, your password could be “Hawaii2023!”

Gratitude: Incorporate things you’re grateful for, like “FamilyLove2023” or “HealthyLife$uccess.”

Mindfulness: Choose passwords that encourage mindfulness, such as “Breathe&Smile!” to prompt moments of calm.

Motivation: Use passwords with motivational words or quotes, like “Strive4Success!” or “NeverGiveUp!”

Wellness Focus: For a health-oriented approach, try passwords like “EatClean&BeLean!” or “StayActiveDaily!”

Remember to balance positivity with security. Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, and avoid easily guessable phrases or personal information.

Exercise

Our bodies crave and love movement! Post lockdown, with the option of working from home, it is beneficial to have an exercise routine or be intentional about moving as often as possible. I love walking and try to get 11,000 steps in daily. There have been days when I felt I would not meet up, but I persevered and maintained my winning streak. To harness the positivity-boosting benefits of exercise, it’s essential to find activities you enjoy and can incorporate into your routine consistently. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a dance class, team sports, or, like me, getting those steps in by doing star jumps in the kitchen while preparing a meal (as long as you have the space), staying active can be a powerful tool for promoting a positive outlook on life. Some daily benefits of exercise are;

Release of Endorphins: When you engage in physical activity, your body releases endorphins, often called “feel-good” hormones. These endorphins interact with receptors in your brain, reducing pain perception and triggering positive feelings. This natural high can elevate your mood and create a sense of well-being.

Stress Reduction: Exercise is a powerful stress reliever. It helps your body to better manage stress by reducing the production of stress hormones like cortisol. Regular physical activity can lead to a calmer mind, making you more resilient to daily stressors.

Improved Sleep: Regular exercise can help regulate your sleep patterns. When you get better quality sleep, you feel refreshed and more positive. Sleep is crucial for emotional stability and mental health.

Increased Self-Esteem: Achieving fitness goals, even small ones, can boost your self-esteem and self-worth. As you become more active and see improvements in your physical abilities, you may gain a greater sense of confidence and positivity. Set realistic goals and build on from there. Do what works for you.

Distraction from Negative Thoughts: Physical activity can be a healthy distraction from negative or anxious thoughts. Focusing on the physical demands of exercise can temporarily take your mind off worries.

Long-Term Benefits: Regular exercise is associated with long-term benefits like reduced risk of depression and anxiety. Exercise promotes relaxation, mindfulness, and self-awareness, enhancing positivity and reducing stress. You can build resilience against mental health challenges by maintaining an active lifestyle. I’m talking from experience, and I would say it works.

We can and should form daily habits to stay positive, energised, and happy mentally and physically, thus promoting overall well-being. Positive passwords are easy to inculcate into our day, but exercising may be more challenging. Forming a new habit is difficult, but determination, picking yourself up when you fall short, and self-motivation will get you there. Remember never to compare yourself with anyone; everyone’s life journey is different.
